1850 census of Morgan Co., Ky, lists as family #255:
Samuel Smedley, 52, farmer; Mary, 38; Samuel, 17; David Hall, 20, laborer; Mary Cassity, 5; Nathan Chapman, 80, born Connecticutt. All others born in Kentucky.
(David Hall is the son of Isaac Hall and Annie Martin. I do not know the relationship of Mary Cassity. Perhaps Samuel had a daughter who married a Cassity.)
1860 census of Rowan Co., Kentucky, lists as family #50 (between James B. Cassity and Samuel Smedley Jr.):
Smedley, Samuel Sr., 62; Mary, 59. Both born in Kentucky. (Mary’s age should be 48 or 49 to be consistent with other census years.)
Samuel is not in the 1870 census of Rowan County. Mary is living with their son Samuel Jr. in 1870, listed as age 60 and 1880 listed as age 69.
