Morgan Co. marriage register book 1, p. 79, on LDS microfilm #839,918, records the marriage of Isaac C. Caudill and Elizabeth Perry on 5 Aug 1846.
This is the earliest record I have found of a Caudill in Morgan County. It is possible that his surname was really Cottle. Although the Caudill family was very numerous in Morgan and Rowan counties by the time of the Civil War, they were relatively late in settling in this region. Most of the Caudills who were in Morgan, Rowan or Elliott counties in 1870 were still in Letcher and Perry counties in the 1850’s. There are no Caudills in the 1850 census of Morgan County. There are, however, 5 Cottle families, although none of them are headed by Isaac & Elizabeth.
