He was probably really born in 1845 or 1846, since he was listed as age 4 in the 1850 census, taken in August, and as age 55 born March 1854 in the 1900 census.

I cannot find this family in the 1870 or 1880 censuses.

The preceding household is headed by Rosa’s sister Polly, and the one before that by her brother John.
