The Kentucky birth index lists Chester Crawford, born 15 April 1914 in Breathitt Co. (a misindexing of Rowan Co.
11), mother’s maiden name Ine Hall.
His obituary in the Morehead News of 18 Jan 1994 reads “Chester Crawford, 79, 1385 Nichols Branch, Clearfield, died Thursday, Jan 13 at the St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead. Born March 15, 1914 in Rowan County to the late Clay and Ina Hall Crawford, he was a retired logger and farmer.
A son, Ronnie Crawford, preceded him in death in 1984. Survivors include his wife, Vernia May Crose Crawford; a daughter, Frieda Wagoner of Clearfield; two sisters, Flo Stidham of Morehead and Esther Jessie of Lasantville, Ind., six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.”
The SSDI lists Chester Crawford, born 15 Mar 1914, died 15 Jan 1994, last residence Clearfield, Rowan Co., Ky, social security number issued in Kentucky.
Note the discrepancy in the birth date between the birth index (April) and the dates given at his death (March). Ordinarily one would give greater credence to a birth record, but the index contains many transcription errors; someone may have hit the wrong key.
