Valentine immigrated to the United States about 1740, settling first in Orange County, Virginia. Shortly after his marriage to Joanna Goad, the couple moved to Culpepper Co., Va, and later to Rockingham Co., Va, where John Sevier, their eldest child and the most famous member of their family, was born September 23, 1745. Valentine Sevier arrived at Watauga Settlement on December 25, 1773 accompanied by 4 sons and 3 daughters, to join his third son Valentine, who was already there. He took the oath of allegiance on August 27, 1778. He died at the Watauga Settlement in Carter County.
