Joe Payne’s web site84 lists Rebecca as the youngest child of John Sevier and Catherine Sherrill, but that is apparently an error, because he has her birthdate listed as 25 Apr 1796, which is after her marriage date, and the same date as the birth of her daughter, Sarah Rebecca Waddell. To be married in 1795, Rebecca cannot have been born much after 1780. Further evidence that she is the youngest child of John Sevier and Sarah Hawkins (rather than an early child of John & Kate) is that she named her first daughter Sarah, and her first son John Sevier Hawkins Waddell. Quite possibly Sarah died in childbirth with Rebecca, which could explain why John Sevier married Catherine Sherrill only 5 months after Sarah died.
