The obituary of Emma’s mother refers to her daughter once as Emma Pigman of Morehead and once as Mrs. John Pigman.
Census
1930 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, enumerated 9 April, lists on p. 1A as family #7:
Pigman, John, 47, age at first marriage 45, proprietor of confectionary; Emma, wife, 37, age at first marriage 35; Wheatley, Charles, son, 12. All born Ky Ky Ky.
Charles should be listed as a stepson. They apparently misinterpreted the question about age at first marriage to mean the age at the beginning of the current marriage. The next household is headed by Emma’s parents.
1940 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, ED 103-1A, enumerated 11 April, lists on p. 2B as family #39:
Pigman, J. H., 57, salesman of retail hardware; Emma, wife, 47; Smedley, Eliza, mother-in-law, widowed. All born in Kentucky, living in same house in 1935.
Eliza is not really widowed (nor divorced.) Her husband D. B. Smedley is recorded in 1940 with their son Jeff D. Smedley, as still married.
