Notes for Ada Smedley
Her obituary in the Rowan County News of Thursday, June 19, 1986 reported “Ada Smedley Gregory Perry, 88, of Rt. 4, Morehead, died Monday, June 16, at her residence. Born in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Jeff and Georgian Petitt Smedley. Her first husband, Eli Gregory, died in 1966. Her second husband, J. D. Perry, died in 1975.

Mrs. Perry was a member of the Church of God.

She is survived by a daughter, Nannie Wright, Dayton, Ohio; three sons, Denton Gregory, Morehead; Clifton Gregory, Crestline, Ohio, and Joe Gregory, Brunswick, Ga. A brother, Alfred Smedley of Georgia; two sisters, Chloe McClurg, Farmers, and Nellie Crose, Mansfield, Ohio. Also, 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted Wednesday, June 18, at Lane-Stucky Funeral Home with the Rev. Sherman Arnett officiating. Burial was in the Clearfield Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers.”

She is buried beside her first husband, with a double stone inscribed “Gregory : Eli 1894-1966 : Ada 1897-1986”
