Her death certificate records Margarett Turner, age 81 years 4 months 8 days, born 29 Oct 1832 in Letcher Co., Ky, died 8 Mar 1914 in Rowan Co., widowed, father Jesse Cornett, mother’s maiden name Nancy Branham, birthplaces not known, cause of death dropsy from mitral regurgitation of heart, informant E. S. Turner, Eadston, Ky, burial in Hays Cemetery.

There is no Margaret, Maggie or Peggy in the 1850 census listing of the Jesse Cornett family. There is, however, a daughter Marinda age 17. Note that the 1860 census lists John Turner’s wife’s name as Mariah. So probably her name was either Margaret Marinda or Marinda Margaret.

Since Letcher County was not formed until 1842, the birthplace apparently means the part of Perry County that was incorporated into Letcher Co.

The informant E. S. Turner is Margaret’s son Elihu.

1880 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Morehead precinct, lists as family #62:
Turner, Margarett, 48, keeping house, widowed; Robert, 23, son; Jno. C. B., 20, son; Amanda, 18, dau; Davis, 16, son; Henry L., 13, son; Margarett, 12, dau; Elizabeth, 16, dau; William Sr., 85, father-in-law, widowed, Ky Va Va. All other family members born Ky Ky Ky.

In 1900 Margaret was listed as age 68, b. Oct 1830, widowed, mother of 11 children, 9 living, mother-in-law, with her daughter Nancy and husband William Barker.
