Any connection between this Sexton family and my own Sexton line is unknown and extremely remote, if it exists at all. My Sextons came from Grayson Co. Virginia to Bath Co. and Montgomery Co. Ky very early, about 1800, whereas this group of Sextons came from Scott Co. Virginia and Russell Co. Virginia to Floyd Co. Ky and Lawrence Co. Ky somewhat later, in the 1830’s.

I am entering them into my database only to help keep track of them, since by the mid to late 1800’s the two groups were overlapping in the Carter Co. and Rowan Co., Ky area. (In particular, Hiram and Sarah’s son John M. Sexton ended up in Rowan Co.)

1860 census of Boyd Co., Ky, Cattlettsburg P.O., enumerated 15 June, lists on p. 30 as family #192:
Hiram Sexton, 21, labourer; Sarah, 14. Both born in Kentucky.

1870 census of Boyd Co., Ky, district 2, Botts Fork P.O., enumerated 19 July, lists on p. 7 as family #42/41:
Sexton, Hiram, 30, farmer, b. Va; Sarah, 24, b. Ky; Sydney, 8; Genevra, 5; Walter, 3; Sexton, Richard, 38, laborer, b. Va; Chris, 8; John, 13. All children born in Kentucky.

1880 census of Boyd Co., Ky, precinct 2, East Fork of Durbin, enumerated 15 June, lists on p. 15 as family #114:
Sexton, Hiram D., 41, farmer, b. Va Va Va; Sarah, wife, b. Ky Ky Ky; Genara, 15, dau; Walter, 12, son; Millard F., 10, son; Wm S., 8, son; John M., 5, son; Sophia O., 4/12, b. Feb, dau. All children born Ky Va Ky.
