His WW I draft registration card, filed in Delaware Co., Indiana, records Jacob Pelfrey, born 27 Oct 1892 in Rown Co., Ky.
Jake shot and killed his nephew Willie Hardin in 1929. See Willie’s notes for a newspaper article.
His sister Lizzie’s 1958 obituary lists as a surviving brother, Jake Pelfrey of Louisville. The only Jake or Jacob Pelfrey listed in the Kentucky death index died 23 Sep 1979 in Perry Co., residence Breathitt Co., at age 86, which would imply a date of birth around 1893. The Social Security Death index also lists Jake Pelfrey, born 3 July 1893, died Sep 1979, last residence Lexington, Fayette Co., Ky. If this is the same person, then he had already left home by 1910.

He is probably the Jake Pelfrey listed as age 36 in the 1930 census as a resident of the Central State Hospital for the Insane on Lagrange Road, near Louisville, Jefferson Co., Kentucky. Most likely he filed an insanity defense in the shooting death of his nephew Willie Hardin (son of Lizze Pelfrey and Alfred Hardin.)
