Rowan Co., Ky marriage book 16, p. 1, records the marriage on 23 Dec 1922 of John Jones, age 21, son of Mart & Sarah Jones, to Bess Hargis, age 18, daughter of W. L. & Ruthie Hargis, both single, born in and residents of Rowan Co., at Crix by Wesley Cox, minister of the United Baptist church, witnesses W. L. Hargis and Mrs. Mart Jones.

1930 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Dry Creek precinct, enumerated Apr 18, lists on p. 7A as family #117:
Jones, John, 27, age at first marriage 19, b. Ky/Ky/Va; Bessie, wife, 26, age at first marriage 18; Amanda, dau, 6; Wilson, son, 4 2/12; Linden, son, 2 8/12; Edith, dau, 1 1/12. All born Kentucky except John’s mother.
Wilson must be the son whose birth is indexed as Wilford E., Linden must be the son whose birth is listed as William G. and whose death was recorded as William Glendon, and Edith must be the daughter whose birth was indexed as Juanita. (Ethel Jones daughter Joyce Swim says that none of the daughters had middle names, though, so rather than being named Juanita Edith, it is possible that the census taker misheard Juanita as Edith.)
1940 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Dry Creek precinct, ED 103-2, enumerated 2 May, lists on p. 13B as family #201:
Jones, John, 37, electric welder at lite plant; Bessie, wife, 36; Manda, dau, 16; Wilfred, son, 14; Edith, dau, 11; Ethel, dau, 8; Sheridan, son, 7; Elmer, son, 6; Walter, son, 3; Vercel, son, 2; Wayde, son, 5/12. All born in Kentucky, living in same house in 1935.
