The reported birth date is very likely incorrect, because he does not appear on the 1850 census. His gravestone gives his dates as 1854-1931. The informant is his daughter Pearl.

Be careful not to confuse him with John Yarber/Yarborough born 12 Oct 1838, died 5 Jan 1929 in Bath Co., son of Thomas Yarber and Lizzie Powers, who married Parthena Wiggington.

Her given names were often combined to “Marthena”.

Strangely, she appears in the 1860 census as age 18, and in the 1870 census as age 20, and in the 1880 census as age 29.

Callie is probably really a granddaughter as well. The reported birth dates are too close together for any two of them to have the same mother, though. It is possible that one of them is Roberts and the other two are Minnie’s, but at least one of the birth dates must be wrong.

Indeed, most of the reported birthdates for the children are inconsistent with known birth and/or death records.
