Notes for Margaret “Maggie” Day
Her death certificate lists Maggie Brown, age 40, born 19 May 1871 in Morgan Co., Ky, died 19 May 1911 in Salt Lick, Morgan Co., Ky, widowed, father Henry Day, mother’s maiden name Carline Sergent, both born in Morgan Co., Ky, cause of death cancer of womb, informant Dick Day, Mt. Sterling, Ky.
The reported birthdate is inconsistent with the 1900 census, and considering that it is the same day and month as the death date, was probably calculated as an approximation by subtracting her age from the date of death. (The informant, however, is her brother, so it is possible that her birthdate was entered incorrectly in the 1900 census and that she really did die on her 40th birthday.)
Census
In 1900 she was listed with John’s parents as Maggie Brown, daughter-in-law, age 29, b. Sep 1870, widowed.
1910 census of Bath Co., Ky, White Sulphur precinct, enumerated 1 April, lists on p. 13A as household #271/284:
Brown, Maggie, 38, widowed, mother of 2 children, 2 living, b. Ky Ky Ky, own income.
Notes for John W. & Margaret “Maggie” (Family)
Morgan Co. Ky marriage records list the marriag of John P. Brown and Margaret Day on 11 Nov 1888. (From names-only index; I have not consulted the original for details.)
This is the only record I have seen that gives P. as John’s middle initial, but it is clearly the same John Brown who was Coleman’s and Joanna’s son, since Maggie is living with them in 1900 listed as their daughter in law.
