Census Notes for Addison Franklin Quesenberry
1900 census of Floyd Co., Virginia, Indian Valley district, enumerated 6 June, lists on pp. 6-7 as part of household #55:
Quesenberry, Add F., 42, b. 1858; Mary E., wife, 23, b. May 1877, married 6 years, mother of 2 children, 2 living; Loula (or Lorela) E, dau, 3, b. Jan 1897; Wm, son, 14, b. May 1886; Simon P., son, 10, b. Nov 1889; Manda, dau, 9/12, b. Aug 1899. All born Va/Va/Va.
Note that William and Simon are from Addison’s first marriage, and the two young daughters are from his second marriage, despite the boys coming between the girls.
This family is sharing both a dwelling number and a family number with the family of Thomas Henderson Quesenberry and Mary Emma Quesenberry, but Addison is marked as a head of family. (Thomas and Addison were first cousins.) In the situation of two families sharing a dwelling, the enumerator is supposed to bump the family number whenever someone is labeled as a head of household, but he didn’t. I suspect they weren’t sharing a dwelling, either, and he just forgot to enter a new pair of numbers.
Census Notes for Addison Franklin & Mary Elizabeth (Family)

Nancy was originally entered as a separate household, but then the numbers (214/214) and the surname were erased, indicating that she is part of the same family. The relationship was not changed from “head” to “mother”, though, as it should have been.
