I am entering this family into my database because they may be descendants of my Henry Jones and Frances Bohannon, since Henry’s descendants migrated from Franklin Co. to the part of Montgomery Co. that became Floyd Co.

1850 census of Floyd Co., Virginia, district 15, enumerated 8 Aug, lists on p. 412 (stamped)/823(penciled) as family #494:
Anna Jones, 50; Elizabeth, 21; Preston, 20; Nathan, 19; Catherine, 17; Sarah, 15; Delila, 12; Fleming, 9; Julia, 17; John, 3/12.

Anna through Catherine are recorded as born in Franklin Co., Sarah through Fleming plus the baby John born in Floyd Co., and Julia’s birthplace is illegible. It begins with an M, N or W, followed by four to six short letters, something like “ucum”, “escem”, “oscen”, etc. (This clerk entered the county when known in Virginia. He also made all lower case letters so small that they are barely more than kinks on a line.) Since Julia has the same year of birth as Catherine but not the same birthplace, it is likely that she is not a daughter of Anna, but either a daughter-in-law or niece, more likely the former.
