Notes for James Elihu & Jemima (Family)
I cannot find a marriage record for them in Morgan County. They probably married in Lawrence Co.
Census
1850 census of Lawrence Co., Ky, enumerated 16 Aug, lists on p. 44 as family #279:
James Fraily, 37, farmer, b. Ky; Jemima, 30, b. Virga; Geo W. Fraily, 13; Andrew C., 11; Eleanor, 9; David, 5; Brittain, 3; James R., 1. All children born in Kentucky.
James’ parents are two households above at #277. This page also contains several of the Ison families who would later move to Morgan Co., including Isom Ison and Argalus Ison.
1860 census of Morgan Co., Ky, West Liberty P.O., enumerated 5 July, lists on p. 48 as family #291/288:
James Fraley, 47, b. Ky; Gemimah, 40, b. Va; George W., 21; Adam C., 20; Ellender D., 18; David, 15; Brittena (m), 13; Nancy, 11; Mary, 6; John, 7; Jesse, 7 (twins); Isabel, 4; Parthena, 5/12; Gemimah Wagoner, 13. All children born in Kentucky.
The daughter Nancy age 11 is in conflict with the son James R. age 1 in the 1850 census. Either Nancy is really about 9 or 10 and James died young (the most likely explanation), or else there was a very strange recording error, or else Nancy is some other relation than a daughter.
1870 census of Elliott Co., Ky, precinct 1, Sandy Hook P.O., enumerated 24 June, lists on p. 33 as family #198:
Fraley, James, 57, farmer, b. Ky; Jamima, 51, b. Va; David, 26, farm hand; twins: John, 17, farm hand; Jessie, 17, farm hand; Mary, 15; Parthena, 10; Fraley, Malissa, 12. All except Jamima born in Ky.
1880 census of Elliott Co., Ky, Newcomb precinct, enumerated 21 Aug, lists on p. 23 as family #177/181:
Fraley, James, 67, farmer, b. Ky Va Va; Gemima, 61, wife, b. Va Va Va; Ison, Melissa, 21, granddau, b. Ky Va Ky; Elizabeth, 3, granddau, b. Ky Ky Ky.
Elizabeth should really be a great-granddaughter.
