The death certificate of her son William gives his mother’s maiden name as Polly Monsey, but the informant J. W. Jones did not know William’s date of birth, so he may have been mistaken about Polly’s maiden name. Since she was only 19 at the time of her marriage, it is less likely (although certainly possible) that Sexton was the name of a previous husband.

Note that she would not be the same person as Mary Sexton born ca 1836, daughter of William Sexton and Nancy Davis, because that Mary was still living with her parents in the 1860 census, listed as age 24.

1870 census of Menifee Co., Ky, precinct #2, lists as family #13:
M. Manier (female), 35, widow; Elizabeth, 12; Presley, 10; Simeon, 5. All born in Ky.
The ages for Elizabeth and Presley are both 2 years older than that implied by their gravestones.
