Rowan Co., Ky marriage book 1, p. 74, contains a bond for the marriage of Oliiver McGlothlen and Mary Morehouse, to be on 24 Feb 1885, surety by Isaac McGlothlen. Marriage register book A records the marriage twice, once on page 63 with the date 25 Feb 1885 and Oliver’s name spelled as McGlothlen, and once on p. 77 with the date 24 Feb 1885, and Oliver’s name spelled as McGlothn.
This family’s surname is seen in records as McGlothin, McGlothen, McGlothlan, McGlothlin, and McGlothlen. The McGlothlin spelling seems to be most common in early census and marriage records, but Rowan Co cemeteries contain 9 McGlothin graves and only one McGlothlin, that of Mary A. McGlothlin who died in 1883.
