I don’t know whether his name was actually Edmond Edward Wells, or whether his middle name was something entirely different like Estill or Ernest, and he just switched his first name from Edmond to Edward. (The two names were nearly interchangeable in early Kentucky, with it being fairly common for men to use both variants at different times.)
