His obituary reported “Leon Pettit, age 84, of Winchester, Ohio, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Peebles, Ohio.
He was born in Grange City, Kentucky on December 11, 1924, the son of the late Tobe and Helen Bradshaw Pettit.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hubert and Robert Pettit, and one sister, Madge Wakely.
Leon was member of the Johnson Church of God in Grange City, Kentucky, and a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hazel Barber Pettit of Winchester, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Janis Pettit of Winchester, Ohio, two brothers, Vernon Pettit of Grange City, Kentucky and Emerson Pettit of Jamestown, Ohio; two sisters, Nellie Taylor of Flemingsburg, Kentucky and Lovell Caudill of Grange City, Kentucky; one step grandson, Darren Underhill of Winchester, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at 2 pm at the Hutton Funeral Home with Randall Hawkins officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery.”
