Morgan Co death register lists Pheby Willilams, age 62, born in Bath Co., died 23 Sep 1852 in Morgan Co., parents Wm and Catharine Furguson. (These early death records do not record the mother’s maiden name.)

Although the older children are listed as born in Floyd Co., Ky, and the later ones in Morgan Co., Ky, this does not represent a migration. Morgan County was established in 1823 from parts of Bath and Floyd counties, and John Williams was one of the founders.

Two of John and Phoebe’s children married their first cousins, children of Phoebe’s brother Richard Ferguson and Nancy Jones, and five of them married children of Edward Hill and Sarah E. Hamilton.

I have no Hill or Williams ancestry; their families are in my database because several of their descendents married my McClain relatives, and I wanted to show how they were related to each other.

1850 census of Morgan Co., Ky, enumerated 26 Aug, lists on p. 67 as family #429:
John Williams, 60; Phebe, 58; James, 19; Margarett, 17; Alvin, 11; William Fergerson, 52. All born in Ky.

Alvin may be a grandson. His death certificate reports his parents as John Williams and Susan Coxal. Most likely, though, the informant just listed his stepmother as his mother.
