The 1900 census lists his birthdate as March 1892, and his gravestone also says 15 March 1892, but Rowan Co. marriage records list his parents’ marriage as 5 Nov 1893.

Her death certificate records Clista Brown, age 56 years 10 months 5 days, born 7 July 1892 in Carter Co., Ky, died 12 May 1949 in rural Rowan Co., Ky, married, father Solomon Barker, mother’s maiden name Alice Johnson, cause of death cerebral hemorrhage due to arteriosclerosis & hypertension, informant Everett Brown, burial in Pisgah churchyard.

The reported age and birthdate are the same ones that are on her gravestone, but the year is very likely wrong. She was recorded in the 1900 census as Crystiana, age 4, born May 1896, and in the 1910 census as Clista A., age 14. Probably the 1900 spelling was a mishearing of “Clistie Anna”.

1940 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Hilda, ED 103-12, enumerated 22 April, lists on p. 13B as family #195:
Brown, Everett, 48, laborer at saw mill; Clifta, wife, 48; Elkin, son, 26, farm hand; Willie, son, 24, laborer at saw mill; Kathern, dau, 22; Dennis, son, 16, farm hand; Ernest, son, 8; Virginia, dau, 5. All born in Kentucky, living in same house in 1935.
