This James Brown is most likely a descendant of Francis Asbury Brown.
Notes for James P. & Nancy E. (Family)
Morgan Co. marriage records list the marriage of James P. Brown and Nancy Nickell on 6 Sep 1843 by Thomas Easterling.
James either died or they were divorced by 1850. Nancy’s children Benjamin, Matilda and Louisa were born out-of-wedlock. Louisa’s birth record gives her father as Isaac Cottle, but I do not know who the father of Benjamin or Matilda was.
So far as I know, I am not related to this Brown family. They are in my database because I do have a Brown line in Morgan Co. (descendants of my 5G grandfather James Brown 1783-1850), so I like to keep track of all the Brown families in the area in order to be able to tell which are mine and which aren’t.
Census
1850 census of Morgan Co., Ky, enumerated 2 Oct, lists as family #1063:
Nancy Brown, 25; John, 6; William, 4. All born in Ky.
1860 census of Morgan Co., Ky, district 1, enumerated 14 June, lists on p. 21 as family #126/124:
Nancy E. Brown, 36, farmer; John M., 15, laborer; William F., 14; Benjamin F., 9; Matilda J., 7; Louisa F., 5.
The preceding five households are headed by sons of Elijah Brown and Alcey Coffee (John E, Nathaniel, Samuel W, Alfred T and James W.) This probably indicates some relationship between that family and Nancy’s late husband James P. Brown. He would not be a son of Elijah’s, though, because Elijah had a son James Wallace Brown born about 1828, who married Fanny Delong.
