There is a scanner glitch that cuts off the bottom half of the birth year. The reported age at death would imply a birthdate of 23 Feb 1850, but it is very common for age at death calculations to be wrong because people tend to go field by field and subtract whichever number is smaller from whichever one is bigger. The intention was probably either 13 Jan 1850 or 13 Jan 1851. The latter agrees with the 1900 census, but the 1860 is more consistent with 1852.

1880 census of Bath Co., Ky, Polksville precinct, enumerated 22 June, lists on p. 23 as family #201/205:
Staton, Mevley, 28, laborer, works on farm; Lucy J., 28, wife; Robert, 10, son; Lualen, 8, dau; Fany, 6, dau; Granvil, 4, son. All born Ky Ky Ky.

1900 census of Bath Co., Ky, Owingsville precinct, enumerated 1 June, lists on p. 1A as family #6:
Staton, Midley, 49, b. Jan 1851, farmer; Lucy J., wife, 48, b. June 1851, married 30 years, mother of 8 children, 7 living; Fannie, dau, 26, b. March 1874; Elza, son, 20, b. Sep 1879; Perry J., son, 18, b. Apr 1882; Marah, dau, 14, b. Oct 1885.

Since Elza did not appear in the 1880 census, his birthdate was probably really Sep 1880. Melville and Lucy’s sons Granville and Lou Allen head the neighboring two households.
