His gravestone, a double one with Julia, apparently inscribed at the time of her death and not completed upon his, has his name as Lewis M. Ratliff, his birthdate as 30 March 1855, and no death date.
Be careful not to confuse him with Lewis Sanford Ratliff (b. 5 Mar 1857 in Morgan Co., d. 28 Nov 1921 in Rowan Co.), son of Robert Ratliff and Sarah Lykins.
