1880 census of Morgan Co., Indiana, Adams township, enumerated 5 June, lists on p. 7 as family #65/66:
Pruitt, Gideon, 32, brickmaker, b. Ind Ky Ind; Mary, wife, 27, b. Ind N.C. Ind; Clauda, dau, 6; Alva, son, 4; Daniel Jr., 26, cousin, refused to give any information.
The next household is headed by Daniel Pruitt Sr., age 56, b. Ky Ky Ind, with wife Elizabeth age 52, b. Ind Ky Ind, presumably Daniel Jr’s parents. This couple are in Putnam Co., Indiana in 1900.
1900 census of Hendricks Co., Indiana, Clay township, enumerated 18 June, lists on p. 11B as family #169/170:
Pruitt, Gideon B., 52, b. Dec 1847, Ind Ky Ky, brickmaker; Mahala, wife, 46, b. Mar 1854, N.C. N.C N.C., married 26 years, mother of 4 children, 4 living; Adrastus, son, 13, b. Dec 1886; Anna, dau, 11, b. May 1888; Franklin, son, 9, b. Mar 1891; Maggie, dau, 6, b. Mar 1894. All children born Ind Ind N.C.
They must have interpreted the number of children question as meaning the number at home, since they had at least two children who had already left home.
