Stone in Jennings Cem., Poplar Grove, Rowan Co., Ky, says "Joe Slusher 11 Mar 1861 - 18 May 1933". The birthdate is off by a year, as it does not fit with the census records (in particular, he appears in the 1860 census as 7 months old.)

He does not appear in the Kentucky Death index, nor in the 1933 death certificates from Rowan Co., so he may have died out of state and been returned home for burial.

Elliott Co. marriage report for 1878 lists the marriage on 19 Dec 1878 of Joseph Slusher, age 19, born Morgan Co., Ky, both parents born in Grayson Co., Virginia, first marriage, to Margrat Mauk, age 18, first marriage, born in Carter Co., Ky, father born in Lawrence Co., Ky, mother born in Carter Co., Ky.

I do not know whether this marriage ended in divorce, or if Margaret died sometime between 1880 and 1884.

In 1880, Joseph and Margaret were listed in separate households, but both with their marital status given as married.

Joseph was recorded with his sister Samantha and her husband Henry Scaggs in Rowan Co, and Margaret was recorded with her father and stepmother in Elliott Co, along with Joseph and Margaret’s baby daughter Mary.
