His birth appears to have been registered twice, once at the time of birth, and once a delayed registration, with the year wrong. Both are misindexed as Breathitt Co.11
In Vol. 55, certificate #27239, recorded in 1917, is the birth of Murvel O. Robberts, born 25 May 1917, mother’s maiden name Dora McClain.
In Vol. 209, certificate #94421, recorded in 1953, is the birth of Mervil Roberts, born 25 May 1918, mother’s maiden name Dola McClain.
While it is possible that these are two different persons, it is far more likely that Murvel/Mervil filed a delayed birth certificate in 1953, perhaps because the mispelling of his last name made it not show up in a search, or because he was mistaken about his year of birth. (The 1920 census is consistent with the 1917 date.)
