His death certificate records Otis Trent, age 10 days, born 29 Sep 1913 in Rowan Co., Ky, died 8 Oct 1913 in Rowan Co., Ky, father John R. Trent, born in Rowan Co., mother’s maiden name Minnie Sloan, born in McGoffin Co., cause of death “hives they say, had no Dr”, informant Buck Slone, Fraley, Ky, burial in Black Cemetery.
There is a stone in Black-Trent cemetery with the inscription Odie Trent, Sep 10, 1914 - Sep 20, 1914, but there is no birth or death record for a child with those dates. It is a double stone with John and Minnie’s daughter Sabra, who was born in 1922 and died in 1923. Considering the September birthdate and the lifespan of 10 days for both Otis and Odie, I strongly suspect that Otis was originally buried with an undated marker, that this joint stone was placed at the time of Sabra’s death, and the exact dates of Otis’s birth and death were misremembered.
