His obituary reported “William Russell Hargis, 78, of 930 Old Flemingsburg Road, Morehead, died Thursday, April 8 at the Lucille Markey Cancer Center in Lexington.
He was born Oct. 17, 1914 in Rowan County to the late Lemuel and Katherine Smedley Hargis. A retired carpenter, he was a member of the East End Church of God.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Russell Hargis Jr., who died in 1959.
Surviving are two sons, Samuel L. Hargis and Roger (Butch) Hargis, both of Morehead, three daughters, Betty H. Calvert and Carolyn S. Butler, both of Morehead, and Shirley Bundy of St. Louis, Mo.; three sisters, Josephine Johnson of Dayton and Daisy Caudill and Gracie Ellington, both of Morehead. Also surviving are six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.”
