Goodpaster, John, 52, farmer; Lou A., 20; John, 18. All born in Kentucky.

Lou is John’s daughter Lucy. The preceding household is headed by Thomas J. Goodpaster, age 29.

1880 census of Morgan Co., Ky, Hamptons Mill district 87, enumerated in June, lists on p. 4 as family #28:
Goodpaster, John S., 28, laborer; Sarah, 58* (see note below), mother, widowed; Lucy A., 30, sister, single. All born in Kentucky.

Sarah is really John’s stepmother. Her age was originally entered as 38, and then “corrected”: in darker ink to 58, presumably because the census taker figured 38 was too young to be John’s mother, but really the original age was correct and the relationship wrong.
