His obituary records Wallace L. “Wally” Graham, 92, of Carthage, Ill., died at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at his home.
Born Feb. 20, 1914, in Pittsfield, Ill., he was the son of Herbert Edward and Gertrude Mae Pettit Graham. On June 14, 1936, he married H. Bernice Gray in Pittsfield.
Mr. Graham ran the Nation Wide Grocery Store after moving to Carthage in 1938. He sold insurance for Prudential. He retired from Security State Bank in 1976 as a teller and assistant cashier.
He was a 1932 graduate of high school in Milton, Ill. He played baseball for Western Illinois University in Macomb and later played for the St. Louis Browns. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of the Carthage American Legion for more than 50 years. Following retirement, he and his wife spent 30 years wintering in Alamo, Texas. He was a member of the Alamo Baptist Church and worked in its food pantry.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Wallace Lyndon Graham of Galesburg, Ill., and David L. Graham of Lomax, Ill.; one daughter, Karen E. Lucas of Nauvoo, Ill.; six grandchildren; six–great–grandchildren; and one sister, Wanda Hobson of Griggsville, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one grandson, three brothers and one sister.

She was born on April 7, 1918, in Pleasant Hill, Ill., the daughter of Russell I. and Martha “Mattie” L. Ator Gray.
She was united in marriage to Wallace L. “Wally” Graham on June 14, 1936, in Pittsfield, Ill. He preceded her in death in 2006.
She graduated from Milton High School. She attended Carthage College.
Bernice had worked at Marine Trust Bank for 10 years and the Farm Bureau for 15 years.
Bernice and Wally spent 30 years wintering in Alamo, Texas, where she was a member of the Alamo Baptist Church and helped in the food pantry.
Bernice also was a member of First Baptist Church in Carthage.
Survivors include: three children, Wallace Lyndon (Sherry) Graham of Galesburg, Ill., Karen E. (Jim “Butch”) Lovell of Nauvoo, Ill., and David L. (Sheila) Graham of Lomax, Ill.; five grandchildren, Jennie Lucas, Julie Simpson, Justin Graham, Amy Arnold and Josie Graham; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Larry Gene Graham; and two grandsons, Jeffery Lucas and William L. Graham.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Printy Funeral Home, Carthage,
Burial will follow in Moss Ridge Cemetery, Carthage.
