Her first marriage license gives her maiden name as Towles. Her son Walter’s death certificate gives his mother’s maiden name as Tolls.

1850 census of Randolph Co., Missouri, Sugar Creek township, Allen P.O., enumerated 27 Sep, lists as family #518:
P. D. Towles, 32, b. Va, farmer; Elizabeth, 30, b. Ky; Lucy, 8; Nancy, 6; Mary, 3; William, 3/12. All children born in Missouri.

1860 census of Randolph Co., Missouri, Sugar Creek township, Allen P.O., enumerated 6 Sep, lists on p. 172 as family #1171/1166:
E. J. Towls, 39, seamstress, b. Ky; L. J., 19; N. C., 18; M. E., 13; M. F., 7. All female, all born in Mo. except E. J.

The later censuses give Lucy’s age as 28 in 1870, 36 in 1880, 59 born Aug 1840 in 1900, 69 in 1910, and 79 in 1920.

Randolph Co., Missouri marriage registers record the marriage of James F. Brummel and Lucy Jane Towles on 21 Sep 1863.
