Notes for Solomon Emery & Hortense (Family)
It is uncertain whether Solomon and Hortense ever married. I have not found a marriage record, and certainly they were both single in June 1880, when Irvin was listed with the surname Lee. And Hortense still carried the surname Lee in 1900, when she was listed in the census as widowed and living with Joseph Reynolds. But all five of their sons took the surname Baker as adults, and were raised by Solomon, so most likely they did marry sometime between late 1880 and 1882, and divorce shortly after the birth of Henry Millard.
(My only connection to this family is very peripheral, that Solomon late in life was briefly married to Clemmie Tolliver, whose first husband was my great-great uncle, Ben Franklin Hall. But if I put someone in the tree who was married multiple times, I like to include all of their spouses even if I only have ties to one of them, so that other people encountering the tree online, whose connection may be through one of the other marriages, will be able to see all them all.)
