Since he appears in the 1880 census as age 6 months, the birth date from the WW I registration would be the correct one.
His WW II draft registration card, filed April 1942, records William R. McClurg, age 62, residence 2102 S. Hackley, Muncie, Delaware Co., Indiana, born 14 Dec 1879 in Rowan Co., Ky, employed at coal yard, nearest relative wife (no name given).
