1880 census of Wirt Co., West Virginia, Tucker district, enumerated 9 June, lists on p. 12 as family 100:
Showalter, Thomas, 27, farmer, b. Va Va Va; Sarah E., 23, wife, b. Pa Pa Pa; Lucinda J., dau, 6; Levina A., dau, 4. Both daughters born in W. Va.

1900 census of Hocking Co., Ohio, Sand Run precinct, Ward township, enumerated 6 June, lists on p. 6B as family #115/116:
Showalter, Thomas, 48, b. Aug 851, WVa WVa WVa, coal miner; Sarah E., wife, 43, b. Oct 1856, married 29 years, mother of 12 children, 7 living; Ella, dau, 24, b. Aug 1875; Mack, son, 18, b. Dec 1881; Harrison, son, 14, b. July 1885; May, dau, 12, b. Jan 1888; Isa, dau, 10, b. Apr 1890; Charles, son, 7, b. Sep 1892. All children born WVa WVa Penn.

West Virginia was not formed until 1868, so the birthplace for Thomas and his parents apparently means the part of Virginia that later became West Virginia.
