His WW II draft registration card, filed 27 Apr 1942, records William Calloway, age 47, residence Stirrat, Logan Co., West Virginia, born March ? 1895 in Elk Co., Kentucky, nearest relative Bessie Calloway, same address, employer West Va Coal & Coke Corp, Omar, W. Va.
There is no “Elk Co” in Kentucky. This probably represents Elk Fork, which was an area of Morgan and Elliott counties, although possibly it is a matter of the recording clerk mishearing Elliott (which in a Kentucky accent is pronounced “Ellutt”).
