His obiturary in the Zanesville Times Recorder reported “Private funeral services will be observed for Charles Eugene Craig, 77, who passed away April 16, 2007, at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 6, 1930, in New Straitsville, to the late Edward and Myrtle Craig. Charles was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1945 to 1948 in Alaska and a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1948 to 1950 in England, Italy and Africa. He was a charter member of the VFW Post 1388 of Buckeye Lake, a member of the FOE Eagles of Buckeye Lake and American Legion Post 58 of Somerset. He was retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening during his active life.
Charles is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Sorrell Craig, daughters Charlotte Nelson of Buckeye Lake; Betty (Richard) Browning of Texas; Myrtle (Gilbert) Rios of Newark; and son, Charles E. Craig Jr. of Buckeye Lake; brother, Robert (Greta) Craig of Dover, Del.; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty Reynolds and Dorothy Campbell; brothers, Bill and James Craig; and son-in-law, George F. Nelson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Charles to the VFW Post 1388 Building Fund or Hospice of Central Ohio.”
