His death certificate records Avert Grooms, age 39, birthdate blank, born in Montgomery Co., died 28 Feb 1933 in Mt. Sterling, Jeffersonville precinct, Montgomery Co., Ky, father John F. Grooms, born in Montgomery Co., mother’s maiden name Ida Alfrey, born in Rowan Co., cause of death “Burned to death.” Controbutory causes: “His own home burned. Annalysis made of the vital organs by the U. of K. public service laboratories Found no signs of fowl play.” Informant Mr. John F. Grooms, Jeffersonville, Ky.

In 1920 he is listed in Jeffersonville, Montgomery Co., Ky as Abert Grooms, cousin, age 26, single, farm laborer, with Wm Lamb, age 65, widowed, farm laborer. Both born Ky Ky Ky, noone else in the household.

I cannot find a death record for Hazel. Most likely she remarried after Avert died.

1930 census of Montgomery Co., Ky, Jeffersonville precinct, enumerated 2 April, lists on p. 1A as family #7:
Grooms, Avert, 37, age at first marriage 31, farmer; Hazel, wife, 23, age at first marriage 17. Both born Ky Ky Ky.
