Notes for Solomon Purvis
Some online family trees list him as the son of William Purvis and Malinda Jones, but he does not appear with William in the 1850 census. I cannot find him in 1850 at all. Since Malinda had died by then, it may be that he was raised by another family and incorrectly listed with their surname.

1860 census of Fleming Co., Ky, enumerated 24 July, lists on p. 51 as family #350/414:
Elizabeth Reeves, 51; John, 20; Parthena, 20; Solomon Pervis, 18.
John and Parthena are marked as twins. The next household is that of Mathew Pervis and wife Rebecca, both age 49, but it is very unlikely that they are his parents, because their family looks complete in the 1850 census.
1870 census of Lewis Co., Ky, Esculapia precinct, enumerated 15 Sept, lists on p. 28 as family #197:
Carrington, John L., 59, farm laborer; Susan, 55; Jesse B., 28; Elizabeth, 26; Purvis, Solomon, 30, farm laborer. All born in Kentucky.
Elizabeth Reeves, 51; John, 20; Parthena, 20; Solomon Pervis, 18.

Rowan Co., Ky marriage report to the state auditor for 1878 lists the marriage on 20 Sep 1878 of Soloman Pervis, age 35, born in Fleming Co., both parents born in Fleming Co., to Sidney McClain, age 16, born in Bath Co., father born in Fleming Co., mother born in Morgan Co., both residents of Rowan Co.
Census
1880 census of Rowan Co., Ky, Brushy Fork precinct, enumerated 1 June, lists on p. 36 as family #274/326:
Pervis, Solomon, 30, farmer; Sibia, 20, wife; Jennie L., 8/12, b. Sept, dau. All born Ky Ky Ky.
Two households below is the family of Sibby’s father James McClain and his second wife Emily.
The age for Solomon is very different than suggested by other records (for example he was recorded as 35 at the time of marriage), and should probably be 36 to 38 here instead of 30.
1900 census of Franklin Co., Ky, Frankfort ward 2, enumerated 14 June, lists on p. 22A as family #392/445, at 676 Main St:
Purvis, Sibbie, 36, b. 1864, widowed, mother of 6 children, 5 living, washwoman; Annie, dau, 18, b. Oct 1882; Susie, dau, 16, b. June 1884; Alvin, son, 12, b. Feb 1888; Cecil, son, 10, b. June 1890; Mona (or Maud), dau, 7, b. Feb 1893. All born Ky Ky Ky.
The handwriting is very cramped; I may have misinterpreted some of the names.
