His death certificate records Hiram Nelson Roys, age 83, born 25 July 1846 in Kentucky, died 14 Sep 1929 in Bath Co., Kentucky, father Sam Royse, mother’s maiden name Sarah Bailey, both born in Kentucky,

The year of birth is off by one; his parents were not married until 12 Oct 1846, and he was recorded as age 2 in the 1850 census.

Her death certificate records Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Royse, age 69 years 5 months 22 days, born 19 July 1960 in Kentucky, died 10 Jan 1930 in Wyoming precinct, Bath Co., Ky, widow of Samuel Royse, father Robert Ratliff, mother’s maiden name Sarah Sparks, both born in Kentucky, cause of death pulmonary tuberculosis, informant Sam Royse, Owingsville, Ky, R.R. 1, burial in Fairview grave yard.

The mother’s maiden name is incorrect; I can find no record of any Sarah Sparks married to a Ratliff. (There was another Robert Ratliff in the area, born about 1834 in Morgan Co. who married Hannah Lawson and moved to Menifee Co., but the only Robert Ratliff with a wife named Sarah was the one who married Sarah Lykins.)

1880 census of Bath Co., Ky, Wyoming precinct, enumerated 1 June, lists on p. 12 as family #105/109:
Roice, Hiram N., 32, laborer; Mary L., 18, wife; Aron S., 1, son. All born Ky Ky Ky.

1900 census of Bath Co., Ky, Wyoming precinct, enumerated 26 June, lists on p. 17B as family #351:
Royce, Hiram, 52, b. July 1847, farmer; Mary E., wife, 38, b. July 1851, married 22 years, mother of 7 children, 6 living; Samuel A., son, 21, b. Mar 1879; Clay Lee, son, 19, b. Apr 1881; Robert B., son, 17, b. Apr 1883; John M., son, 9, b. June 1890; Charley T., son, 5, b. Dec 1894. All born Ky Ky Ky.

Note that the age and birthdate are inconsistent by a decade for Mary. It clearly says 1851, but perhaps the census taker misheard the date.
