Carroll Co. Virginia death records list Leton Collins, age 96, died July 1895, born in North Carolina, farmer, married, informant Jefferson W. Cox, stepson.
Jefferson W. Cox was not really Leaton’s stepson, but rather his stepson-in-law, that is, the husband of his stepdaughter Serena Phereby Bond. He was also a step-nephew, in that Jefferson’s mother Sarah Elizabeth (nee Kemp) was remarried to Francis Marion Collins, who was Leathan’s brother.
In the 1880 census Jefferson Cox was living on one side of Leaton (listed as Leathan) Collins and Nancy, and Francis Marion Collins and Sarah were living on the other side.
