In all census records in which he appears, his reported age would imply a birthdate of 1858 or 1859. But he does not appear in the 1860 census, so I suspect he was really born in the second half of 1860. (His stepbrother Floyd Cox, who was recorded as age 7 months in 1860, suggesting a birthdate in about Nov 1859, also is listed with an implied birthdate of 1858 or 1857 in most later records.)
