Her obituary reported “Wiletta M. Sorrell, 92, of New Castle, died Wednesday at Stonebrooke Rehabilitation Center in New Castle following an extended illness.
She was born February 3, 1917 in Windfall, Indiana, a daughter of the late Herbert and Lola (McLain) Pickering.
She was known as "The Candy Lady" at Kresge's where she worked the candy counter until her retirement. She was a member of the First Friends Meeting.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Kip Sorrell, Kurt Sorrell and Angelique Sorrell all of New Castle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Sorrell; a son, Jerry Sorrell; a sister, Irene Emmons and a brother, Gene Pickering.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Curt Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.”
