“Wilburn Carl Alfrey, age 91, resident of Shelby died Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Hospice House in Ashland.
Born June 20, 1921 in Morehead, Kentucky to Luther and Roxie (Ramey) Alfrey, he had moved to Ohio at the age of three and resided in the Shiloh-Shelby area the majority of his life.
A 1940 graduate of Shiloh High School, he was employed with North Electric Co. until 1961. He then started working at the Shelby Post Office until his retirement in 1984.
A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he served during WWII and was a former member of the Shelby VFW Post #291.
Carl was an avid golfer who enjoyed golfing with his friends at Woody Ridge Golf Course up into his 80's.
He is survived by one daughter, Sandy (Mario) Miguel DeLeon of Shelby; three granddaughters, Tiffany (Jerry) Crose, Ashley (Ben) Salyer and Ciara Miguel DeLeon all of Shelby; three grandsons, Jerry A. Coxwell of Alabama, Memphis McCallum of Colorado and Jeff Castor of Shelby; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Avery (Miriam) Alfrey of Shelby; his companion June Hartland; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Vivian (Bartlett) Alfrey; one daughter, Kathi Martin; his sister, Norma Jean Hoskins and brother, Robert Alfrey.
Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend S.T. Adkins will officiate
Interment in Oakland Cemetery where full military honors will be observed.”
