The censuses and death records are consistent that Susan’s maiden name was Cannon. These annual birth records were compiled each year by the county clerk for submission to the state auditor, from reports submitted during Jan to March of the following year by midwives and doctors. I believe what happened here is that the clerk making the compilation misread the handwriting of the birth attendant.
