I cannot find a marriage record for Joseph and Mary. His name is known only from the death certificate and obituary of their son William. It is possible that they did not really marry, since William is listed as a Snedegar in 1870 and as a Purvis in 1880. He later went by Jones, though.

His middle name may be Elijah, with the L standing for Lige.
