Notes for Hannah H. Lewis
Her middle name is probably Hopkins, judging by naming patterns in the Lewis family.
Assignment as a daughter of Thomas Lewis and Elizabeth Mynhier is tentative (and dubious.) She is so linked on many member trees on Ancestry.com, perhaps due to family tradition among descendants that the two wives of John W. Ellington were sisters. The trouble with the attribution is that in the 1850 census, when this Hannah is recorded as John’s wife, age 27, there is also a Hannah Lewis age 17 listed with the family of Thomas Lewis and Elizabeth Mynhier. They would not have two living daughters of the same name born ten years apart. So unless the one living with them in 1850 is some other relation (perhaps a daughter-in-law), then this one must have some other parents.
Also, Thomas and Elizabeth’s son Jonathan was listed with them in the 1850 census as age 25, and his gravestone gives his birthdate as Aug 1824. If that date is correct, it would be hard to fit another child in between their marriage date in Sep 1823 and Jonathan’s birthdate.
So I am highly doubtful of that attribution. But until I find evidence of other parents, attaching her as a possible daughter gives me an easy way to navigate between this record and her purported parents.
