Her death certificate records Nannie Sorrell, age 73 years 9 months 21 days, birthdate blank, born in Ky, died 30 Apr 1942 in Owingsville, Bath Co., Ky, married, father Nathan Sorrell, mother’s maiden name Lydia Bromagen, both born in Ky, cause of death pneumonia, informant Bruce Sorrell, Owingsville, Ky, burial in Bethel Cemetery.
The reported age at death implies a birthdate of 9 July 1868. She was recorded as age 1 in 1870 and age 11 in 1880, and as age 30, born July 1869 in the 1900 census. If the 1870 and 1880 censuses were following the strict instructions of recording the age as of June 1, then the 1868 birthdate would fit, but they may have been reporting her age at the time the census enumerator visited the house, which was very commonly done.
